D is for... Deputy Chief Caretaker

Second-in-command of the janitorial staff who were employed to look after the Paradise Towers residential complex. Like his boss, he was an unimaginative man, who lived his life by the rule book. The Doctor used this fact against him when he was captured and facing execution. He made up some fake rules which allowed him to dupe the Deputy and his colleagues so he could escape. When the Chief Caretaker had his body taken over by the Great Architect Kroagnon, and the Cleaning Machines began to kill residents and Caretakers alike, the Deputy brought his surviving men to meet with the Doctor so that they could join forces with him, the Kangs and the residents.

Played by: Clive Merrison. Appearances: Paradise Towers (1987).

  • Merrison had previously played the rocket crewman Jim Callum in Tomb of the Cybermen.
  • He is the only actor to have played Sherlock Holmes in every one of the short stories and novels written by Conan-Doyle - all on radio.
